Mangalore, Sept. 28, 2011: Steven Rego, a journalist based in Mangalore, has won the K. J. Shetty Kadandale Award, instituted jointly by Vijaya Kalavidaru Troupe and Yugapurusha Publications.
Mr. Rego is the sub editor of Vijaya Karnataka, a prominent Kannada daily. He was chosen for this award for his report titled Malligeya Katu Vasane, Tragedy Ooru Shankarapura, which was published in Vijaya Karnataka. The judges feel that this report has enhanced public awareness on the adverse effects of overusing pesticides.
This award, which is conferred in memory of late K. J. Shetty Kadandale, the veteran journalist, comprises Rs. 15,000, a citation, and a trophy.
The award will be conferred on Mr. Rego on Oct 2 at an awards ceremony at Yugapurusha Auditorium, Kinnigoli, according a press statement issued by Yugapurusha Editor-in-chief Kodethur Bhuvanabhirama Udupa.
