Udupi, Jan 3: The ICYM unit of St Anthony’s parish, Bannur, felicitated Steeven Rego, sub-editor of Kannada daily ‘Vijaya Karnataka’, Mangalore bureau, on New Years’ Eve, for his significant contributions to journalism.
Bannur parish priest Fr Nicholas D’Souza, Fr Francis Assisi D’Almeida, Tony Lobo, ICYM Bannun parish unit president Vishwas Lobo, vice-president Jaison Praveen D’Souza, Dikshit Gonsalves, and Wesley D’Souza were present on the occasion.

Puttur, Jan 3, 2011 : Steven Rego, the sub editor of the Mangalore edition of the daily Vijaya Karnataka, was honored by the Bannur unit of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) and St. Anthony’s Church of Bannur on the occasion of the New Year celebrations held at the church.
Rego chiefly writes on burning social issues and focuses on human interest stories. He won the K. J. Shetty Award for his report on the deteriorating jasmine culture at Shakarapura, and his contributions to the Lavalavike supplement of Vijaya Karnataka is worth mentioning.
He was honored in the presence of Fr. Nicholas D’Souza, the parish priest of Bannur, Fr. Francis Assissi D’Almeida, Tony Lobo, ICYM President Vishwas Lobo, ICYM Vice President Jaison Praveen D’Souza, Wesley D’Souza, Veekshith Gonsalves, and others.

Puttur: In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of journalism, Steevan Rego of Darandakukku, sub-editor with Vijay Karnataka Kannada daily's Mangalore edition, was honoured jointly by St Antony's church, Bannur and Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Bannur unit on the occasion of the New Year-eve programme held in the church premises.
Rego's write-ups on human interest and socially relevant issues have proved thought-provoking and motivational in content and presentation. His recent write-up on the deteriorating jasmine culture in Shankerpura had won him the K J Shetty Award. His contribution to the 'Lavalavike' supplements of Vijay Karnataka is substantial.
